THE MONSTER IS CONCEIVED

Frankenstein and his monstrous creation came from the imagination of 18yr old Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley nee Godwin. She had the inspiration during a stormy evening in June 1816 on the shores of Lake Geneva. Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus was published anonymously in 1818 and was very successful. By 1823 the story had spawned several different stage adaptations with Presumption Or, The Fate Of Frankenstein being the most popular. The success of the book continued and in 1910 the Thomas Edison Film Company brought Frankenstein to the silver screen in a short film of the same name. The monster emerges from a cauldron of chemicals and the rest they say is history.
